Usak is a town in west central Anatolia that has a long tradition of rug production since the 15th Century and is famous for its 16th C. star, medallion and prayer rug designs. At the end of the late 19th C., due to the demand for large over sized rugs in Europe and the US, production of large scale commercial basis began to occur. These later commercial Usaks gained popularity with their loose larger knot. Usaks of today still favor the designs and motifs of the 16thC, and much like the past are still considered a status symbol
