The word kilim simply means a flatwoven rug or a rug without
a knotted pile. Kilims are generally named after the tribes
that wove them in Anatolia (Turkey), the Caucasus, Persia
and Afghanistan. The decorative characteristics are derived
by the colour of natural dyes extracted from local plants
and roots as well as the geometric motifs and compositions.
